Day One · August 21
Slow brunch and excellent coffee at McHugh's Cafe on the South Mall, a relaxed spot that suits an unhurried solo morning (hours vary, so confirm before visiting). If it's closed, try The ClockHouse Cafe nearby.
A final riverside stroll along The Mall, then a quick browse of Bridge Street's shopfronts before you point the car east. Rainy day alternative: linger over a second coffee at Christy's Harvest on Shop Street until the shower passes.
Leave by around 1:00 pm. Return via the N5 East toward the M4 back to Dublin, roughly 3 to 3.5 hours with weekend traffic. Worth a short detour: stop in Castlebar or pull over near Turlough for the National Museum of Country Life grounds if you want one last West-of-Ireland pause before the motorway.
