If you are craving a hot dog and are in upstate New York, the only question is what you like on it. Buffalo has become a hot dog hot spot, and here are some of our top picks.

Ted’s
7018 Transit Rd, Buffalo NY

Ted’s opened in 1923 and now has seven locations in the area. The franchize cooks their hot dogs over hardwood charcoal and you will almost always find a long line (think Pink’s in LA) at each restaurant that only contributes to Ted’s being one of the most popular choices in the area. It’s recommended to pair your dog with some of their highly-recommended hand-battered onion rings.

Taffy’s Red Hots
3261 Orchard Park Rd., Orchard Park NY

In Orchard Park, Taffy’s Red Hots is a 1940s beach-style shack at the corner of Routes 240 and 40. Owned by 96-year old Nellie Eliah, Taffy’s frankfurters are paired with a special secret hot sauce and you can also try out one of the 110 milk shake flavors that are available.

Connors
8905 Lakeshore Rd., Angola NY

Over near Lake Erie, Connors professes to use Wardynski’s hot dogs over Sahlen’s and their dogs are cooked over gas. The dogs are said to be rich in taste and inexpensive as this is also a hot destination for hot dog lovers in the area.

Sullivan’s
501 Cayuga Dr., Niagara Falls NY

In Niagara Falls, Sullivan’s features a cook who rolls the hot dogs with his tongs until the skin punctures which creates a delicious smoky flavor. Like Connors, it also cooks over gas instead of charcoal. The dogs are placed inside Schwebel’s buns which are also a favorite in Buffalo.
