Where else in the world but in Los Angeles can you ice skate past a palm tree? Los Angeles has a couple of places you can enjoy skating outdoors this holiday season.

Santa Monica’s ICE (1324 5th St, Santa Monica, 90400) features an 8000 square foot rink right by the beach and this winter wonderland can be rented out for private parties with your own cabana! For those whom need a little help on the ice can book a lesson with the Randy Gardner School of Skating. See website for tickets/ further details.

Framed by towering skyscrapers and historical landmarks, is Pershing Square ice rink in the heart of downtown. (532 S. Olive St, Los Angeles, 90012)  For its 16th season there will be a whole host of free events including a winter concert series, the Winter Holiday Festival on December 14th. Not to be missed is the 5th Annual Downtown on Ice Community Broomball Tournament where teams chase a rubber ball on the ice with brooms with the winning team scoring the coveted Pseudo Stanley Cup. For events details and tickets see website.

In Long Beach, the Queen Mary (1126 Queens Hwy, Long Beach, 90802) makes a stunning backdrop for ice-skating, which is part of the Chill event. The rink has theme nights running each night with holiday movies playing Tuesdays, Djs spinning Hip Hop on Fridays and Country on Sundays. For those less steady on their feet, Chill also features tubing where you can race down one of six ice slides standing two stories tall and 100-feet long! Further details on website.
