Ways To Celebrate The Holidays In Los Angeles

If you are visiting Los Angeles over the holidays there is plenty going on to get you in the holiday spirit. Who says it doesn’t snow in LA? Well it does from 7pm nightly at The Grove – LA’s enormous outdoor mall, where the TV show Extra often films! There is also a spectacular 100ft white fir tree and Santa’s cottage where you can take your photo snapped with him. Parents with ‘children’ of the furry kind to get their photo with the big man on Tuesday evenings from 8pm.

The Banning Museum in Wilmington has a free Victorian Christmas event on 7th and 8th December. You can take a tour of the museum that will be decorated for the occasion, as well as plenty of events for kids including a horse drawn trolley rides and an St Nick to pose for photos. For many Christmas wouldn’t be the same without watching Jimmy Stewart in the holiday classic It’s A Wonderful Life which is playing at Cinefamily (611 N Fairfax Ave, Los Angeles, 90036) from 20th Dec through to the 26th. This lovely small 150 seat cinema will be showing the original 35mm film.

For the kids, or the big kid in you, Bob Baker’s Marionette Theater, the oldest children’s theater company in Los Angeles, is a fun and unique way to celebrate the season. This year’s Holiday Spectacular has a cast of over 100 beautiful marionettes as the Wizard of Fantasy and his side kick Demi Star embark on a magical holiday journey.

If retro’s your thing, then the King of Retro Charles Phoenix will be giving a comedy performance to get you in the mood for all the holidays like you have never seen before! Celebrating the very best and most bizarre of the 1950s/1960s Phoenix turns the classic living room slide show into a hilarious and historical celebration of American holidays. The LA Philharmonic at Walt Disney Concert Hall ends it’s 10th year celebrations with an extra special holiday line up including; The Blind Boys of Alabama, five-time Grammy-winning gospel legends, will be belting out their rousing and spiritual renditions of Christmas carols on Dec 10th.  Julie Andrews will be the special guest at the Holiday Sing-Along on Dec 21st.
