Whether for a girl’s getaway, or with a significant other, or for alone time, there is no better way to warm up this winter than with a visit to the spa. And there is no shortage of great places to get pampered in Toronto. Take a look at some of the favorites listed here and start to feel all that pre/post holiday stress melting away.
- Elmwood Spa: This well-known spa is located in the heart of the city, near Yonge-Dundas Square. Described as an oasis in the city, there are 3 floors, 34 treatment rooms, and several water therapy areas (a pool, whirlpool, steam room), access to which is included with any treatment. Get a massage, lounge by the pool… And maybe order a drink! There are also two restaurants and a juice bar. The larger space works well if you are going with a group. Visit on your birthday and get a complimentary 3-course lunch.
- Stillwater Spa: Located inside Yorkville’s Park Hyatt Hotel, this spa has 17 treatment rooms, an aqua therapy room, steam rooms, saunas and whirlpools. There is also a nice tea lounge. It’s well known for its Swedish massages (on heated beds) and facials. Specially good to visit solo or with friends of the same sex, as the whirlpool, steam rooms and saunas are in the change room area (and are not coed). There are a variety of aqua therapies and body treatments/wraps that will make a visit here truly special.
- Hammam Spa: Located on King Street West, Hammam is known for its signature Turkish baths and Turkish/ancient Roman-inspired atmosphere. It has a large, 500-square-foot coed steam room (which can be nice to enjoy if you are going as a couple, as many other spas only have steam rooms in the change room areas). The Turkish baths are a unique experience, set in candle-lit rooms. There’s also a trendy tea room to lounge in while waiting for your treatment.
- Sweetgrass Spa: Located on Queen Street East, Sweetgrass Spa is part of the Verity women’s club, and is women-only. The decor is clean and uncluttered, and the space includes an ozonated swimming pool with an underwater treadmill. There is also a whirlpool, steam shower and an infra red sauna. Indulge while sipping champagne, cocktails, fruit juices and herbal teas in the lounge – and consider enjoying a lunch specially created for spa clients by the Executive Chef of George Restaurant. Although on the smaller side (at least when compared to the other spas on this list), this still offers a complete spa experience.
