Travel From New York To LA In Under An Hour With Futuristic Hyperloop

on July 17, 2013

The trip from New York to LA and vice-versa is one of the most popular destinations in the world.

What would you say if I told you that you could potentially save yourself the 12 hours?

The answer might be in the hands of Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Musk is responsible for both Tesla Motors and SpaceX and has patented a high-speed transportation system known as the Hyperloop. The Hyperloop is a tube transport system that would allow passengers to travel at high speeds. The proposed system could reduce travel time between Los Angeles and San Francisco to mere minutes and could reduce travel time from New York to LA to an hour.

While it seems like a Back To The Future false prophecy, a suggestion almost as out there as the hoverboard, apparently Musk’s ET3 is actually a possibility as they have been working on what they call an “Evacuated Tube Transport.”

The Hyperloop has been described by Musk as a “cross between a Concorde, a rail gun, and an air hockey table.” Mock-ups of the design seem like they were almost directly lifted from a science fiction novel. The elevated tube system features a levitation system and is enclosed.

Engineers claim that a six-passenger capsule could reach speeds of 4,000 miles per hour on longer treks across the country or across continents. When the system is implemented (still years away), the projected cost for a passenger to go from New York to LA is $100.
