Looking to ring in the New Year at the nation’s capital? We’ve got three very good reasons why you should head to Ottawa to welcome 2014.
- A big street party: Just one block south of Parliament Hill, the Sparks Street Mall is having a celebration starting at 8pm on December 31. K-OS is headlining the show – and when the clock strikes twelve, fireworks will light up the sky. Chow down before the countdown, as a $60 ticket will get you a steak dinner, salad and dessert, two drinks and a glass of champagne.
- Celebrate in Scottish style: For something a little different, head to nearby Jean Pigott Hall for the New Year’s Eve Hogmanay. Inspired by Edinburg’s well-known “Royal Mile,” music and fun will lead up to midnight, when fireworks will welcome the new year, and the traditional “Auld Lang Syne” is sung. Enjoy Scottish food, scotch whiskey tastings, traditional Scottish tunes and a variety of family activities.
- Comedy, dancing and gourmet meals: There are also a number of indoor events. Head to the Ottawa Convention Centre for Dancing in the Stars for dinner, and of course, dancing. The Fairmont Château Laurier presents Prestigious, Fabulous New Year’s Eve, a tropical carnival show, dinner and dance. Le Cordon Bleu Bistro at Signatures has an eight course culinary experience on December 31. The Marriott Hotel has a What Happens in Vegas… New Year’s Eve party and casino night – complete with a chance to trip a trip to… you guessed it: Las Vegas.
