One of the best places to visit in Boston is also one that you don’t really hear a lot about.
Newbury Street in Boston’s Back Bay is an eight-block shopping strip. It begins at Mass Ave., which you will find more of the regular retailers that include Urban Outfitters. As you continue walking eastward, you will find that the stores gradually become more upscale (these include Banana Republic and Lucky Jeans). Upon arriving at Arlington, you have hit the coup de grace as you will find Chanel and Cartier.
In addition to its shopping outlets, the Back Bay offers some of the best residential areas and architecture to explore. You will find Commonwealth Ave., Marlborough and Beacon Streets, which have been among the most-expensive streets to live on since the early 1800s. A walk through will allow visitors to admire and appreciate the Victorian brownstones which feature inviting porches and gardens. While the buildings have changed a lot over the years (with some now acting as apartments), there are still many that have remained as single-family homes.
After a walk through the Back Bay, we suggest stopping at Stephanie’s On Newbury (190 Newbury St., Boston MA), a great eatery with some of the best salads around.
