If you like listening to Barbershop Quartets, I have an event recommendation that will be music to your ears.
A cappella singers from around the world are featured at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre for SING! The Toronto Vocal Arts Festival from May 9-12.
Canadian and international talent alike come together to present close to 100 performances, events and workshops. The best part is that the event is free!
The feature line-up includes performances by:
UK-based multi-Grammy winning ensemble who have been singing together for 50 years
The Real Group
Swedish group that performs bop, vocalese, pop and originals
Moments To Remember: A Tribute To Harmony Groups Of The 50s and 60s
Honoring Frank Busseri of The Four Lads and featuring cast members from Forever Plaid
SING! was launched last year and concentrates on bringing together different ranges of music, from pop and jazz groups to classical and gospel choirs and world music ensembles as well.
“This year we have expanded our programming to include cross-cultural collaborations and a world premiere concert of new Canadian choral works,” says artistic director Aaron Jensen, an award-winning, internationally-published composer, arranger and performer. “We have more than a few surprises up our sleeves for our 2013 season.”
Toronto’s only a cappella festival educates as well as entertains, with industry veterans leading vocal workshops for singers of all ages and levels of experience.
Tickets are available via Harbourfront Centre’s box office by calling 416-973-4000, Tuesday to Saturday, 1-6pm, or online at Harbourfront Centre.
