“Ritmo y Color” Festival at Harbourfront Centre in Toronto

on June 25, 2013

Come out and celebrate Latin culture at Ritmo y Color, a colourful annual festival at Harbourfront Centre, taking place this year from July 5-7. This year, indulge at the first-ever Empanada Throwdown! Top Chef Canada’s Gabriell Cruz will be whipping up Empanadas along with local chefs. You’ll be able to try Empanadas from Chile, Colombia, and Venezuela, just to name a few.

Once you’ve had your fill, get moving with a dance workshop featuring the zapateado, a foot-stomping dance associated to the lively celebratory music of Son Jarocho. You can also take workshops that will teach you how to samba, zouk, tango, rumba and more.

Other festival highlights include:

  • Musical performances by 3Ball MTY, Lula All Stars, Chico Trujillo, Amanda Martinez, Los Vega, Boogat and many more
  • Piñata making workshops for kids
  • Fandango Panamericano, a musical ritual featuring Claudio Saldivia, Humberto Porto, Yurit Pedraza and Alec Dempster
  • Film screenings of Fania All Stars – Live in Africa, Latin Underground, Shorts for Shorties (animated film series for children) and more
