If you are tired of rereading your Harry Potter books over and over again and are looking for a new fix, Potted Potter is exactly what you are looking for.
The brainchild of Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner, the two-man comedy show is described as the “unauthorized Harry Potter experience” and attempts to simply the seven books and 4,000 pages of J.K. Rowling’s epic narrative into a 70-minute stage adaptation. Potted Potter hits Buffalo’s Shea’s Performing Arts Centre (646 Main St., Buffalo NY ) from May 7 – May 12.
The show features Jeff as the resident expert on all things Harry while Dan comically keeps confusing Potterisms with references taken from The Lord Of The Rings and The Chronicles Of Narnia.
While the Potter books and subsequent movies are known for their elements of grandeur, appropriately enough, Potted Potter parodies it by chiefly using cheap props and staging. You will see many bad wigs and even silly string being used as a mainstay.
Turner plays Harry while Clarkson plays all the other characters including Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Draco Malfoy, Dumbledore, Snape and Voldemort himself.
The show started as a short sketch that the two creators created in 2005 in anticipation of the book’s sixth release. After expanding it, the pair took the show to London and Toronto where it became an overnight success.
