Kickin’ It In Kawarthas Day 2: Claire du lune Bed & Breakfast Review

on July 31, 2013

I have never stayed in a place better than the Claire de lune Bed & Breakfast in Pigeon Lake Ontario. That is the truth.

The completely redesigned property is absolutely majestic and it is easy to see that the B&B is the life’s work of teacher-turned-carpenter Rod Archambault and Claire Andrews.

Their luxury-cabin styled home (868 Bear Creek Road City, Lakehurst ON) features original wooden flooring, walls, and just about everything. The lumber used is all local and finished by Rod himself. Somehow I don’t see Donald Trump putting his overalls on to renovate the Trump International and it is the marvelous attention to detail by the owners that make the Claire du lune a must-see.

While the location is remote, the 90-minute drive from Toronto is completely worth it as the atmosphere around the cabin is completely serene, peaceful and tranquil (which are the three primary things, that vacationers are looking for when they want to getaway from the hustle and bustle of big city life).

I stayed in the Chenonceau Master Suite which featured a stunning French-inspired design, a four-post king-sized bed and the aforementioned original maple flooring. I had a private balcony over looking the lake and was only disappointed by the fact that my itinerary demanded only a short one-night stay. My room also gave me an option to soak in a bathtub or take the quick route and opt for a shower instead.

There are plenty of other rooms available at the luxurious estate as well and these include a second Sans-Souci master suite, and a Coach House room.

In the morning, I couldn’t wait to see what Rod and Claire had lined up for breakfast and it was just as stunning as the place itself. I was completely impressed by the fact that they had a special printed menu displayed on an easel for all of their guests. It was a small touch but perhaps the one that I appreciated the most because it served as a symbol for their attention to detail.

When I look for a weekend getaway, I am primarily looking for a place that has options. One where I can kayak just as easily as I can read a book overlooking the water and not feel like I am wasting my time off. It is in this regard that Claire du lune excels. Nothing that you could possibly do there is a waste of time. Everything is a luxury experience of the highest caliber. I can’t wait to go back and would give it is a five-star rating without even thinking twice.
