What an absolutely wonderful week it was in the Kawarthas-Northumberland region. We travelled the area, met its people, ate its food and experienced everything that there is to do in “the land of 1000 perfect weekends.”
While there were many highlights on the trip, my favourite was horseback riding at Maple Crescent Farm and getting one of the most unique tours of the Ganaraska Forest that I have ever been on. Perhaps it was just because it was so far out of my comfort zone, but it truly was absolutely amazing experience.
I also immensely enjoyed staying at the Claire du lune chalet in Pigeon Lake and The Waddell in Port Hope. Both were incredible properties in two locations that I would never thought about visiting prior to this trip.
Ultimately, I believe that the Kawarthas-Northumberland region is the ideal destination for Weekendtrippers because there is truly something there for everyone. I know that is a cliché that is used in practically every travel guide for any city in the world, but in this case, it is the absolute truth. If you are an adventurer, you can kayak or try treetop trekking. If you prefer relaxing on the water, you can curl up with a book on the waterfront or take a ride on the Kawartha Spirit. If you want to fish, there are great options in Port Hope. If you like antiquing or admiring architecture, Cobourg is for you.
I’d like to thank everyone that was involved in the event’s organization and specifically RT08.
