Are you from the Soo? Then Bon Soo is definitely for you.
Sault Ste. Marie hosts “Bon Soo” every winter. Taking place at Bellevue Park (Queen St. E, Sault Ste. Marie ON), the first incarnation was held in 1964. Originally started as a collection of events that already existed in Sault Ste. Marie, it gradually adopted the Carnival Format. First seen as a means to add excitement to an otherwise dull and dreary winter season, city planners now view it as an opportunity to boost tourism in the historically slow first quarter of the year. The event received its unique name from a contest.
Bon Soo now features bum slides made entirely out of snow and ice, as well as dances, breakfasts and a wide variety of performances. One of the main highlights is the Polar Bear Swim. This year will mark the 50th anniversary.
This year, you can check out the Festival on the weekends of February 1-3 and 8-10. For more information, visit BonSoo.on.ca
