The Windy City might be the most environmentally aware as well.

Avec Chicago Restaurant

Some Chicago restaurants are amongst the most environmentally-aware in North America, and together these eateries have even banded together to form the Green Chicago Restaurant Coalition that awards environmentally-friendly restaurants with the “Guaranteed Green” distinction.

In order to achieve the designation, restaurants must:

- Achieve significant standards in energy, water, and waste reduction
- Make an effort to purchase environmentally preferable food
- Use ecofriendly disposables

If you believe that eating green means more than just snacking on salad, some of Chicago’s Guaranteed Green Restaurants include:

Avec (615 W. Randolph St., Chicago IL)
Big Jones (5347 N. Clark St., Chicago IL)
Blackbird (619 W. Randolph St., Chicago IL)
