Why not start your weekend in Los Angeles with breakfast or lunch at the infamous Chateau Marmont? (8221 Sunset Blvd, 90046) Modeled on a French Loire Valley Chateau D’Amboise, it’s been playing host to celebrities since 1929. The Chateau, as it’s know to those in the know has always been fiercely proud of its private oasis-like bohemian reputation. Back in the 1930s the Chateau was where stars would let off some steam protected by the hotel’s super thick walls and discreet staff and it’s pretty much stuck since.
John Belushi died of an overdose here in 1982, and Lindsay Lohan proved that even the hotel has its limits of bad behavior when she was banned in 2012 after racking up a $46,000 bill on cigarettes and on the mini bar. Jim Morrison did stay here but didn’t hang from the drainpipe like in Oliver Stone’s movie about his life that was actually at the Hyatt up the street.
The hotel is still famed for its discretion so you should avoid whipping out your cameras here for fear of being yelled at or worse, kicked out. Equally don’t tweet about any high jinxes you may see that could get you banned too.
At $435 upwards a night for a standard room, a relatively more affordable way to visit the hotel is to have breakfast or lunch in the restaurant which features a lovely terrace. Skip the expensive valet ($28) and park at the metered parking down the street, just past Pink Taco.
